WHY CONAFK EXISTS
Every Hero's Journey Begins With One Connection
Not every gamer walks into a convention looking for loot, tournaments, or exclusive merchandise. Some of us are simply hoping to find our people.
For as long as I can remember, I've been an introvert.
That may sound strange considering I willingly spend weekends surrounded by thousands of gamers at conventions. To most people, those events are filled with excitement, energy, and endless opportunities to meet new friends.
For me, they were something a little different.
I loved being there. I loved seeing the cosplay, discovering new games, watching tournaments, and sharing the excitement that only another gamer could understand.
But even standing in the middle of thousands of people who loved the same things I did, I still felt alone.
Not because anyone was unfriendly. Not because I didn't want to meet people. But because I never wanted to feel like I was interrupting someone else's experience.
“Am I bothering them?”
“Do they already know each other?”
“Would they rather I wasn't here?”

THERE HAD TO BE A BETTER WAY
The more conventions I attended, the more I realized something: thousands of us were experiencing the exact same thing.
We're gamers. Many of us grew up making friends online before we ever met in person. We communicate through guilds, parties, Discord servers, voice chat, and multiplayer games every single day.
Yet when we're finally standing in the same room together, meeting someone new somehow becomes harder.
I wanted to change that. I wanted to remove the pressure, make that first conversation feel natural, and give people permission to say hello without wondering if they were intruding.
I imagined an app that could answer one simple question before you ever walked across the room:
“Who here is looking for the same kind of connection I am?”
That idea became ConAFK.
MORE THAN FINDING A PARTY
ConAFK isn't just about finding someone to stand next to in line. It's about discovering people who already share your interests—the same games, fandoms, conventions, and adventures.
Sometimes that connection might last fifteen minutes while waiting for a panel. Sometimes it lasts an entire convention weekend. Sometimes, it becomes a friendship that follows you long after everyone has gone home.
If ConAFK helps even one person leave a convention with a lifelong friend they wouldn't have met otherwise, then it has done exactly what it was created to do.
THE PHOENIX
You'll notice a phoenix throughout ConAFK. For most companies, a logo is simply a brand. For me, the phoenix is personal.
Throughout my life I've experienced seasons where everything could have gone in a different direction—moments that tested who I was and could have defined me by loss, disappointment, or circumstances beyond my control.
But they didn't. Because every time life became difficult, someone showed up. Sometimes it was a friend. Sometimes a mentor. Sometimes an unexpected connection.
Those relationships reminded me that we don't always rise because we're strong enough to do it alone.
Sometimes we rise because someone reached out when we needed it most.
The phoenix became my reminder that no matter how many times life knocks us down, we can rise again. It's why I chose it as the symbol of ConAFK. It's why I wear it every day as a tattoo on my ankle.
When you see the ConAFK phoenix, you're not just looking at a logo. You're looking at the belief that one friendship, one conversation, one invitation, or one shared adventure can completely change someone's story.
